Newcastle pull out of double swoop for Andros Townsend and Saido Berahino
NEWCASTLE have pulled out of a deals for Tottenham winger Andros Townsend and West Brom striker Saido Berahino, according to reports.
Saido Berahino and Andros Townsend's moves to Newcastle appear to be off
Both Townsend and Berahino have been linked with moves to St James' Park in recent weeks.
But the Telegraph claim no progress has been made on either deal and Newcastle are now considering whether to move on to alternative targets.
Berahino has become one of the most sought after strikers in recent weeks, with Chelsea and Tottenham also interested in signing the England international.
But Steve McClaren wants to take Townsend on loan with a view to signing him permanently in the summer, while Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy will only consider a permanent deal.
And Newcastle will now take a backward step and wait to see whether either Spurs or West Brom want to reopen talks before the window closes.
The Magpies have already splashed out £17m this month on Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet.
