Davis keeps Rangers in pole position
Rangers fans honoured former star players from Northern Ireland before the game with flags and banners.
It was both apt and entirely predictable then that modern-day hero Steve Davis was the man to pave the way for a Light Blues victory.
Northern Ireland stalwart Davis popped up with a brilliant run and finish in 56 minutes to break Motherwell’s stubborn resistance and set the Ibrox side up for a vital three points.
Sub Nacho Novo added a second with a scrambled effort 15 minutes from time to give Rangers their fifth win of the SPL campaign.

But it was midfielder Davis who pulled the strings for Rangers alongside Pedro Mendes.
Kenny Miller also ran his heart out – doing the leg work for both himself and poacher Kris Boyd.
And although Motherwell rallied near the end and grabbed a deserved consolation from David Clarkson the length of the SPL table still separates the two teams this morning.
That’s cruel on ‘Well who contributed to an intriguing game, but who lacked conviction in the final third until late on.
But Rangers will be happy that a hazaradous 90 minutes has been negotiated without any mishap.
Boss Walter Smith axed Allan McGregor for this game – the keeper’s erratic form convincing Smith that deputy Neil Alexander deserved a crack in goals.
And Alexander coped well indicating that McGregor may be in for a lengthy spell on the bench.
