A cacophony of boos rang around Old Trafford after Van Gaal took off Anthony Martial in the second half and replaced him with Marouane Fellaini in their 1-0 Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow.
The decision was ultimately vindicated as Wayne Rooney hit the winner 11 minutes from time.
And Van Gaal has stood by his decision even if it wasn’t a popular one with the supporters.
“Of course I heard that, I'm not deaf," Van Gaal said.
"That's the opinion of the fans. But afterwards they shall not be disappointed with the decision."
