But center-back Sakho says the players haven't heard the last of their former talismanic captain, explaining how he receives texts from the 35-year-old every so often.
"Steven is an example,” Sakho told liverpoolfc.com.

"Also, he often sends me small text messages like after my first match of the season at Bordeaux, in the Europa League, with the captain's armband.
"He texted me to congratulate me. He said: ‘Continue to fight like that, I'm proud of you.’
"It's always nice to receive such a message from a great player."
Liverpool earned a 1-1 draw in Bordeaux and followed that up with the same result against FC Sion in their second Europa League group game.
The club sacked manager Brendan Rodgers on Sunday and are seeking to appoint a replacement, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp favourite to get the job.
Meanwhile Sakho, who was close to leaving the Reds in the summer transfer window, has returned to the regular XI and started in their 1-1 draw with Everton at the weekend.
