Louis van Gaal is understood to be in the market for a new left-back following the long-term injury to Luke Shaw.
The former Southampton man suffered a double fracture in his leg in the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.
And he is expected to be sidelined for up to six months, leaving United short at the back.
Matteo Darmian was forced to switch sides to fill the breach for the 3-0 win over Sunderland yesterday.

And according to reports in the Daily Mirror, Van Gaal has made a new full-back a priority - earmarking Fox as a potential target.
The 22-year-old is part of a shortlist containing West Ham's Aaron Cresswell and Leeds' Charlie Taylor.
However, since breaking into the Welsh squad the youngster has become hot property, with Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham all showing interest.
Sensing this, Charlton have made moves to tie the Wales international down to a new deal, which he is yet to sign.
