Arsenal legend: If Chelsea lose to Everton it will end their title chances
ARSENAL icon Paul Merson believes if Chelsea fail to beat Everton this weekend, it could end their title chances.
Everton V Chelsea - Premier League Preview
Chelsea are already eight points behind leaders Manchester City, having only won once in their opening four games.
Manuel Pellegrini's side in contrast, haven't dropped a point.
"Chelsea have a nightmare game today and another defeat could virtually end their title chances," he told the Daily Star.
"They can’t afford to lose another game after such a bad start. They’ve given Manchester City an eight-point lead as it is.
"But Everton will definitely fancy their chances, because it’s a lunchtime kick-off at their place and it comes straight after the international break.
"Jose Mourinho will have had little time to train his team – and they will be tired from playing and travelling.
Paul Merson believes Chelsea must beat Everton to keep their title hopes alive
"Most of Everton’s players got a rest. Lukaku, Jagielka, Mirallas, Stones – they didn’t play every minute of both games for their national teams.
"Add to that the fact most of Chelsea’s players are not playing very well and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
"I think Chelsea will probably just do enough to win the game, but it will be very difficult for them – and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jose drops Cesc Fabregas.
"He just can’t get around the pitch at the moment and is really struggling."
