While Spurs' Premier League rivals have splashed the cash on marquee signings this season, Pochettino has been relatively quiet.
Just three defenders along with teenage midfielder Dele Alli have arrived in news that will hardly have supporters off their feet.
But Pochettino has questioned why he would follow Liverpool in spending £30m on Cristian Benteke when they have a star striker of their own in Harry Kane.
Ahead of their curtain-raiser at Manchester United, Pochettino said: "Maybe Liverpool tried to find their Harry Kane? But we have Harry Kane.
"If you want to find players to compete with or improve Harry it's not easy.

Mauricio Pochettino claims he is happy with Tottenham's summer transfer business
"Our philosophy is to mix and have the balance between young and experienced players.
"We have our transfer target, I think in the next few days maybe something [will] happen. You know that we need some players. We work very hard for that."
Tottenham finished fifth in Pochettino's first year in charge and the Argentinian said: "We need to be more solid than last season because we scored a lot of goals [58 in league] but the problem was we conceded [53] a lot."
