De Gea has been linked with a move away from Manchester United after turning down a new contract at Old Trafford.
Real are desperate to bring the keeper back to Spain as the long-term successor to Iker Casillas, who has joined Porto.
De Gea is not our player at the moment
Benitez refused to talk about a move for De Gea on Real's pre-season tour, but hinted that negotiations were ongoing.
He said: "De Gea is not our player at the moment and that is not our subject at the moment.
"We have some great goalkeepers here at Real Madrid.
David De Gea remains a Manchester United player
"Navas is our number one at the moment. I have spoken to him. He is more experienced than our other keepers so he is at the front."
United are thought to have insisted that Sergio Ramos be included in any deal for De Gea.
But with Real holding firm over the defender, De Gea could now see out the final year of his contract at United before moving to Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
