Dani Carvajal has signed a new five-year deal at Real Madrid
The Spain international had been linked with a summer move to Manchester United, with Louis van Gaal looking to replace out-of-favour Rafael at right-back.
But Carvajal, who came through the ranks at Madrid, has instead decided to commit his future at Real until 2020.
The Red Devils, who also missed out on Barcelona's Dani Alves and Liverpool's Nathaniel Clyne this summer, will now hope they succeed in their pursuit of Torino's Matteo Darmian.
A club statement read: "Real Madrid C.F. have announced the contract extension of Dani Carvajal which will keep him at the club until the 30th of June 2020, for the next five seasons."
