Wolfsburg stun Newcastle by placing £30m price tag on Bas Dost
STEVE MCCLAREN has been told to bid about £30million if he wants to sign Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost this summer.
Wolfsburg have put a staggering £30m price tag on Bas Dost
McClaren’s former club have warned Newcastle to forget about signing Dost on the cheap – and used Liverpool’s purchase of Roberto Firmino for £29m from Hoffenheim as a more realistic price.
Newcastle have so far been knocked back with verbal bids of under £10m for Dost.
Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs said: “I read about lump sum payments from £7.1m to £8.5m for Bas.
“But then I refer to Roberto Firmino’s example and say they [Newcastle and Dost’s other suitors] will have to get used to higher amounts if any club really wants to buy Dost.
Newcastle start pre-season training today (Wednesday) under McClaren and the new head coach had hoped to have a couple of new signings in already.
Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin is also in his sights but there has so far been no agreement reached over a fee for the player, rated at £15m.
Wolfsburg have also warned Newcastle off trying to sign former Chelsea forward Kevin De Bruyne, who is under contract until 2019.
