And Liverpool keeping tabs on the situation with a view to a move, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The Reds are looking for another keeper to challenge Simon Mignolet and consider Navas as an option.
The 28-year-old joined Real Madrid last summer after a strong World Cup with Costa Rica however he has played just six games during his first season.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has favoured veteran Iker Casillas as his first-choice keeper and the Spaniard has vowed to keep his place even if De Gea does join the Spanish giants.
