Claudio Ranieri: I wanted this Man United star to play with Frank Lampard at Chelsea
FORMER Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has revealed that he tried to sign Manchester United's Michael Carrick during his time with the Blues.

The Italian spent almost four years at Stamford Bridge, guiding Chelsea into the Champions League and overseeing the first year of Roman Abramovich's reign in west London.
Ranieri splashed the cash on a number of players including Claude Makelele, Joe Cole and Damien Duff in 2003 after raiding West Ham for Frank Lampard in 2001.

And speaking to Sky Sports, the ex-Juventus, Roma and Inter Milan boss revealed that he also wanted to sign Carrick during the midfielder's days at Upton Park.
He explained: "At West Ham, I looked at him [Lampard] and Michael Carrick. I wanted to buy both but it wasn't possible. So I went for Frank."
