Hummels has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League at the end of the season with Manchester United and Arsenal both keen on a move.
The German international said yesterday that he was keeping his options open and would trust his gut regarding any possible move.
But reports now claim that Dortmund will step up contract negotiations with the 26-year-old star in the coming days.
Hummels will be offered a big pay increase to remain at the club and be part of the future like Marco Reus.

But it is suggested that Hummels will be sold if he dallies over the terms on offer.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told German magazine Kicker: "We continue to plan with him.
"We will continue our dialogue with Mats regarding our collaboration."
Yesterday Franz Beckenbauer advised Hummels that the time was right to pursue a move, saying: "At 26, Hummels is at the best age to make the move to England.
"I can understand his thinking well."
