Liverpool 0 - Hull 0: Balotelli fails to inspire Reds as they slip behind Arsenal
LIVERPOOL have slipped behind Arsenal in the Premier League after being held at home to Hull this afternoon.
The Reds were hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 3-0 reverse to Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.
Much of the pre-match build-up surrounded Mario Balotelli and his infamous shirt swap with Pepe.
Liverpool were lifeless in a turgid first half and struggled to create any chances of note.
However, it was a different story after the interval.
The Reds poured forward in search of a winner and Philippe Coutinho should have scored after he was picked out by Steven Gerrard from a free kick three minutes from time.
Balotelli, who had largely been ineffectual, saw a penalty shout turned down.
After a goalmouth scramble, the Italian was bundled over but Neal Swarbrick waved away the appeals.
Liverpool now lie sixth in the table on 14 points.
