Liverpool given slight hope of signing £20m-rated Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri
LIVERPOOL have been given a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri after reports the Swiss international is set to leave the Allianz Arena, but Atletico Madrid are in pole position.
Reports claim Madrid winger Cebolla Rodriguez is on route to wealthy French side Monaco to replace James Rodriguez who was sold for a staggering £63.6m.
Rodriguez's impending transfer means Diego Simeone will be in search of a winger capable of emulating the Uruguayan international.
It's thought Shaqiri will cost a fee in the region of £20m, a considerable sum for a side who have already used a significant chunk of the Diego Costa sale.
Xherdan Shaqiri Player Profile
Brendan Rodgers has already signed tricky winger Lazar Markovic, and has a surplus of player's capable of playing in wide roles.
However the lure of signing a proven, world class international may be too much for the Northern Irishman to ignore.
Liverpool have had a fairly inauspicious start to their Premier League campaign, narrowly defeating a depleted Southampton and losing comfortably to Manchester City.
Although an unlikely move, stranger things have happened with just four days of the transfer window remaining.
