Liverpool set to land killer blow in race to sign Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri
LIVERPOOL are close to signing last night's hat-trick hero Xherdan Shaqiri after reports that his agent is in England to discuss terms with the Merseyside club.
According to transfer extraordinaire Gianluca Di Marzio, a deal is close to being struck to lure the Swiss international to Anfield.
Shaqiri would represent Brendan Rodgers' third summer signing, and would go some way to bolstering the Northern Irishman's Champions League bound squad.
The highly coveted winger has an abundance of experience, and at the tender age of just 22 - has secured two Bundesliga titles, and a Champions League winners medal with perennial champions Bayern Munich.
The former Swiss footballer of the year has been linked with Premier League clubs on a number of occasions.
However his sterling performances for Ottmar Hitzfeld's side throughout the World Cup has intensified talk of a summer exit.
Shaqiri has two years remaining on his current Bayern deal, and is valued at a whopping £17m.
If the Reds were to land their man, it could significantly reduce the likelihood of Southampton's Adam Lallana leaving St. Mary's in the summer.
