Ryan Giggs: Phil Jones and Wayne Rooney WILL be fine for World Cup
PHIL JONES and Wayne Rooney have both been given the fitness all clear for England's World Cup bid.
Both will miss Manchester United's final game of the season at Southampton on Sunday - Jones with a shoulder injury and Rooney with a groin strain.
But United interim boss Ryan Giggs confirmed there are no long term issues with the injuries which will be a huge relief for England boss Roy Hodgson who names his 23-man squad for Brazil on Monday.
Giggs said: "Phil’s injury isn’t as bad as I thought on the night. He’s obviously out for Sunday but should be ok for the World Cup.
"Wayne has just started training over the last couple of days. Sunday probably will be a little be a bit too quick for him but he’ll train and be fine for the World Cup also."
Defender Jones suffered a dislocation of his shoulder in Tuesday's win over Hull but doctors were able to 'pop' it back into place and a period of rest and treatment should mean he can join up with England for their training camp in Portugal a week on monday.
Rooney will have missed United's last three games with his groin problem. It raised fears of a more deep-lying problem because he missed six games mid-season with a similar problem.
But Giggs believes Rooney, like Jones, will be fine to join up with Hodgson's squad.
