Fulham 1 - Norwich 0: Dream’s on for Felix Magath as Cottagers silence Canaries
FELIX MAGATH has never been relegated as a manager – and who’s to say that won’t still be the case at the end of this season either?
The great escape Fulham’s miracle man hinted at when he took over in February came an amazing step closer after Hugo Rodallega kept the dream alive yesterday.
As owner Shahid Kahn flew over from America to watch the match, Rodallega, out in the cold before Magath arrived, repeated the heroics he produced at Villa Park last week.
And the roar at the end suggested Fulham fans really believe that more of the same will be enough to keep them in the top flight against all the odds.
But Magath, who admitted he was “very kaput” after all the tension yesterday, wasn’t making any promises last night.
I am confident, but this is not enough to stay in the league
He said: “I am confident, but this is not enough to stay in the league.
“We must do the same at Tottenham next week.
“We were not so good today but three points is all that counts.”
Let’s be fair, if David Stockdale hadn’t produced a couple of instinctive super saves within seconds of each other on the half hour, and the crossbar hadn’t denied Robert Snodgrass soon afterwards, Fulham would have been on a very slippery slope.
All the more surprising then that after 40 minutes of ruling the roost the Canaries went behind to a sucker punch from Rodallega.
A Lewis Holtby free-kick was flicked on by Steve Sidwell and no one from Norwich was then able to stop the Colombian front man.
Norwich’s caretaker boss Neil Adams admitted: “It is very hard to take. We will fight to the last kick of the season.”
