Christian Benteke fear with Aston Villa striker at risk of missing World Cup
ASTON VILLA and Belgium may be dealt a severe blow with the news that Christian Benteke could be set to miss the World Cup through injury.
The 23-year-old frontman according to reports in Belgium, tore his achilles tendon during a Villa training session.
Benteke was sent for scan earlier today with fears mounting he could miss the rest of the season.
The initial prognosis suggests Benteke will be out for six months, although as Belgian publication HLN states, the club are awaiting the scan results.
It is understood Benteke could find out the results later this evening or tomorrow, which will determine the full extent of the damage.
Benteke it is believed felt a sudden snap in his leg as he attempted to shoot in training.
Under Belgium coach Marc Wilmots, Romelu Lukaku has been preferred to Benteke, nevertheless it would be a sucker blow if the news was confirmed to be true.
Villa meanwhile could miss Benteke for their remaining Premier League games which sees them take in tough-looking fixtures against Manchester City and Tottenham.
