The Red Devils desperately need a top midfielder, and some reports claim they are close to sealing a deal worth around £30million.
David Moyes has earmarked the German after conceding that it will be hard to persuade Bayern Munich to part with their young maestro Toni Kroos.
Gundogan has spent most of the season on the sidelines with a back injury, and Dortmund could be tempted to cash in before his contract expires next year.

Moyes also believes he could use Dortmund favourite Shinji Kagawa to lure Gundogan to Old Trafford.
The Japanese playmaker has failed to impress since joining in the summer of 2012, with most of his limited chances coming from the left wing.
United's £37million capture of Juan Mata from Chelsea has raised more question marks over Kagawa's future, and Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp would love to be reunited with the player who helped his side to two consecutive Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012.
