West Ham boss Sam Allardyce admits he failed to land on-loan Everton forward Romelu Lukaku
WEST HAM boss Sam Allardyce is wondering what could have been after admitting he failed to lure Romelu Lukaku away from Chelsea.
The Hammers have struggled for goals since their opening day 2-0 win over Cardiff.
And Allardyce has conceded that Lukaku slipped out of his grasp.
"I chased him all summer to be honest," he said.
"But when it became the final day of the deadline we missed out an Everton managed to secure his position.
"We were more or less told he was going back to West Brom. We tried, but didn't manage to clinch it."
