Yeovil 0 - Derby 3: Rams are stinging in the Wayne Hennessey
YEOVIL experienced the harsh reality of Championship life as Derby crushed them.
But keeper Wayne Hennessey saved them from an even bigger defeat on his debut by pulling off a series of heroic saves.
Derby finally made their superiority tell with two goals late in the first half.
A through-ball by skipper Richard Keogh in the 42nd minute picked out Johnny Russell and he drew Hennessey before flicking the ball home.
Three minutes later, Chris Martin’s pass opened up the Yeovil defence and Craig Bryson applied a right-foot finish for his first of the campaign.
Only Hennessey’s superb fingertip save prevented Jamie Ward from making it 3-0 at the interval.
It took Derby only 13 minutes of the second half to seal victory when Martin fired home after Hennessey had done well to keep out Ward’s fierce shot.
Hennessey again denied Ward, while Rams goalkeeper Lee Grant was equally impressive to keep out a Liam Davis shot.
Derby boss Nigel Clough said: ‘‘I was pleased with the way we controlled the game and took our chances – and it could have been more.’’
