Pepe Reina happy to stay at Liverpool despite compeititon from £8.5m Simon Mignolet
PEPE REINA made a rare start for Spain last night as the world champions crushed Tahiti 10-0 in the Confederations Cup group stage.
The Liverpool goalkeeper had little to do as four goals from Fernando Torres, a hat-trick from David Villa, two strikes from David Silva and Juan Mata’s effort put Vicente Del Bosque’s side through to the semi-finals.
Earlier, Reina said he expects to remain at Anfield despite facing a battle for his place, with Liverpool close to an £8.5million deal for Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet.
Reina, 30, who has been courted by Barcelona, said: “If there was a chance to improve and go to a bigger club it would be a good, but there are few clubs bigger than Liverpool. In principle my plan is to continue.”
Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto, 20, will arrive on Merseyside today for a medical, with a fee of about £7m agreed.
