Liverpool close to securing £10m Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet
SUNDERLAND goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could become a Liverpool player by the end of this week.
He is ready to make the move from Sunderland but the clubs are still haggling over the fee, said to be about £10million.
Manchester United and Arsenal were thought to be interested in signing the Belgian stopper this summer, but Brendan Rodgers has moved swiftly to bring him to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old recently indicated that he was looking to leave Sunderland after his agent said he would not sign a new contract withe the Black Cats.
Mignolet wants to boost his international chances ahead of next summer's World Cup in Brazil, as he is currently second-choice to Chelsea loan star Thibaut Courtois.
Liverpool will help fund their move for the former Sint-Truiden keeper by selling Andy Carroll to West Ham for £15m, with the striker set to undergo a medical before confirming his permanent switch.
The Reds are also working on a £20m deal for Shakhtar Donetsk star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, having tied up Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas for £7.7m.
Mignolet's proposed transfer to Liverpool leaves the future of current No 1 Pepe Reina in doubt, with Barcelona thought to be interested in signing him.
