Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye fails to rule out Monaco move
NEWCASTLE UNITED midfielder Yohan Cabaye has hinted he could join Monaco in the summer.
The affluent newly-promoted Ligue 1 side bankrolled by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, have already been active in the transfer window, having already made some marquee signings in buying Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.
The 27-year-old box-to-box midfielder recently entertained the possibility of a move to Manchester United, as David Moyes is looking for a long-term successor to Paul Scholes who retired at the end of the last campaign.
And Cabaye has said Monaco would be an interesting proposition should they make an offer.
"Monaco have the means to build a strong team," Cabaye told a British newspaper.
"It might interest everyone."
However, Newcastle's new director of football, Joe Kinnear, insists Cabaye is going nowhere.
"He will stay," Kinnear told the Newcastle Chronicle.
"We’ve got him under contract – and we want to keep all of our top players here.
“We don’t feel we have to sell our top stars."
Cabaye chipped in with six goals in the Premier League last season, as Newcastle managed to beat the drop.
