Chelsea loan star tells Jose Mourinho he wants to stay at Atletico Madrid
ON LOAN Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has told Jose Mourinho that he wants to spend another season at La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
The promising Belgian shot stopper said he doesn't want to spend a season on the bench being preferred to first choice Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.
The 21-year-old, who has already spent two seasons at Atletico, feels another season on loan will keep his international hopes alive.
Courtois said: "I have told Chelsea I want to stay at Atletico and I’ve told Chelsea this and hope it will be signed this week.
"Cech is a big keeper and I don’t want to be sitting on the bench in a World Cup year.
"It’s totally my choice and I’ve not spoken to (Jose) Mourinho about it.
"But I think the club has confidence in me to come back in a year’s time."
The young keeper was signed by Chelsea in 2011 and was immediately sent out on loan to Atletico.
He has enjoyed a successful stint at the club which won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup while he was goalkeeper in 2012.
And last season he helped the club win the Copa del Rey with a 2-1 win against bitter rivals Real Madrid.
