Wayne Rooney celebrates win with TV outburst
WAYNE Rooney fired Manchester United a step nearer to the Premier League title but could pay a high price for the foul-mouthed way he celebrated.
At the end of a week in which football’s top brass signalled a crackdown on behaviour, Rooney angrily swore straight at TV cameras after hitting a hat-trick that hauled United back from two goals down to beat West Ham 4-2.
The foul outburst was clearly audible, containing the F-word, and it sparked complaints from viewers.
An FA spokesman confirmed: “We don’t condone foul language and will look at this.”
Rooney later said sorry, stating: “I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused, especially any parents or children watching.
“Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular.”
Rooney upset England fans during last summer’s World Cup when he turned to a TV camera and verbally
attacked them at the end of the goalless draw with Algeria.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was not too concerned at Upton Park. He said: “We played like champions today. “We kept our heads up and that was a great boost for us.”
