Mauricio Pochettino kicked off his tenure as United States manager with a triumphant 2-0 win over Panama on Saturday night.

Pochettino, who took over from Greg Berhalter last summer, has been entrusted with leading the US towards the 2026 World Cup on their home turf.

The ex-Tottenham head coach was satisfied with his team's performance on his international managerial debut.

AC Milan's Yunus Musah put the Argentine's team on the path to victory at Austin's Q2 Stadium, before PSV striker Ricardo Pepi sealed the win in extra time.

Pochettino remarked: "After a few days training with the team, I think it's amazing the way that we were focused and concentrated and tried to follow the plan.

"It was a professional performance. It's the basis for the first step to start to grow and get better.

"There are many things to improve, to correct, but this is the beginning of a process that has to arrive in 2026 in the best condition.

"I think we are happy because I think all the goals that we said before the game, I think that we got and I think it's an important victory.

"And to start that period with the victory always is very helpful."
