World Cup in England would be 'easy'
ENGLAND’S hopes of staging the 2018 World Cup have been boosted at the start of a four-day inspection of their bid, with FIFA president Sepp Blatter admitting it would be “easy” to stage the tournament in th is country.
Just as Fifa’s heavyweight inspection arrived to run the rule over prospective World Cup stadiums, Blatter said: “The easiest way to organise the World Cup is to go to England .
“Everything is there – fans, stadiums, infrastructure – it’s easy.”
Hours before the six-man Fifa technical group met England manager Fabio Capello at Wembley, Blatter said the national team’s dire performance at the World Cup would not affect the verdict.
World Cup winners Spain are bidding jointly with Portugal against England and 24 Fifa members cast their votes on December 2 in Zurich.
“The performances of bidding countries’ national teams does not matter, definitely not,” said Blatter . “It is the quality of their bid that matters.”
Russia are considered England’s most dangerous opponents in a contest that also features a joint Holland-Belgium campaign and a bid from USA .
The delegation were welcomed at Downing Street by deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who said: “This is an exceptionally strong, unbeatable bid .”
