Chelsea can seal 19 deals before window shuts as Enzo Maresca faces big problem

The Blues have already signed 11 players for £217.5million, but there could be more business to come in the remaining weeks of the summer window.

Chelsea are set to announce two signings to take the number of new arrivals into double digits. But Enzo Maresca isn't close to being finished with finalising his squad, despite spending £217.5million already this summer.

Pedro Neto has passed his medical and signed a six-year contract with the Blues as he prepares for a £54m move from Wolves, while Samu Omorodion has agreed to join the club in a £35m deal from Atletico Madrid.

That means the west London club have recruited 11 players this summer, but they are still looking to make at least one more addition to the squad, with a flurry of departures expected in August. Even when taking into account the mass exodus, Maresca faces a massive problem in keeping his squad happy in managing their game time.

Incomings

Despite bringing in Omorodion, 20, to add to Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and Armando Broja, Victor Osimhen remains a top target for the Blues.

The Nigerian striker wants to leave Napoli and he's made that abundantly clear to the Serie A outfit, who are looking to replace him with Romelu Lukaku.

Their demands for the 25-year-old are thought to be £75m plus Lukaku, with Cesare Casadei also potentially involved. That's currently too high for Chelsea, who are keen on a straight loan deal and a separate transaction to sell Lukaku to the Partenopei.

It is also possible Maresca requests a new centre-back to be signed before the window shuts. He already has Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill available, but the defence have been particularly leaky in pre-season, conceding 12 goals in five games.

The Italian has used Reece James in his three man defence but the club captain has picked up a minor hamstring injury, sparking fears about his recurrent injury problems.

With Newcastle failing to make ground on Marc Guehi, the 24-year-old may well be a contender to return to Stamford Bridge this summer, although Crystal Palace's £60m valuation makes any potential deal difficult.

Outgoings

Chelsea's sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart will have their work cut out trimming down the squad with a massive 46 players registered to the club.

Lukaku will be offloaded on a permanent deal before the end of the summer as Chelsea are desperate to move the Belgian on. The club have taken a brutal approach to forcing out their unwanted players, reportedly banning Trevoh Chalobah from using the club's training building and placing him in the Under-21s squad, with Armando Broja likely to leave with him.

Noni Madueke, meanwhile, is tied down until the summer of 2030 but has been linked with a surprise move to Newcastle. The arrival of Neto could put his position under threat, although Raheem Sterling - earning £300,000 a week - may be sacrificed instead due to his high wages.

Chelsea have nine goalkeepers on their books and that needs to change in the coming weeks. There has been no movement on Kepa Arrizabalaga's future since Al-Ittihad had a bid rejected for the Spanish goalkeeper and he could yet terminate the final year of his contract. He might be joined at the exit door by Djordje Petrovic, who is more likely to leave than Robert Sanchez.

Ben Chilwell will be allowed to leave if a suitable offer arrives for the 27-year-old, with Chelsea looking to sell the left-back as he doesn't fit into Maresca's plans.

As is the case every season, Chelsea will arrange international and domestic loans for their pool of youngsters. Angelo, Deivid Washington and Caleb Wiley could join BlueCo's feeder club Strasbourg on loan, with Bashir Humphreys, Tino Anjorin and Diego Moreira are set to clinch domestic loan moves.

Lesley Ugochukwu has been linked with a temporary move to the Bundesliga, while young trio Casadei, David Datro Fofana and Carney Chukwuemeka may depart on permanent deals to help balance the club's accounts.
