Man Utd stance on signing Ivan Toney after 'asking price slashed by £30m'

Manchester United are among the teams rumoured to be interested in the England international.

Manchester United have made their intentions regarding Ivan Toney crystal clear, as INEOS continue their revamp of the Old Trafford outfit.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe hasn’t been afraid to splash the cash since taking over, with Leny Yoro (£59million) and Joshua Zirkzee (£36m) having already completed moves.

The Red Devils are expected to continue their pursuit of new additions as the window continues, with midfielder Manuel Ugarte among United’s rumoured targets.

But, talk about a move for England international Toney had re-surfaced following the Brentford man’s impressive showing with the Three Lions at Euro 2024.

Toney has just one year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Brentford said to be open to selling, should their valuation be met.

However, Sky Germany claim that Toney isn’t believed to be on United’s transfer radar right now.

It’s believed that United boss Erik ten Hag is pleased with his striker options, having added Zirkzee to the club’s ranks earlier this month.

It comes after The Sun reported Brentford have slashed Toney’s asking price, which was estimated to be in the region of £80million during the January transfer window.

The report states Brentford would be willing to accept a fee below £50m in order to cash in on the 28-year-old before his contract expires.

Arsenal were among those said to be interested in Toney last season, but much like their Premier League rivals United, the Gunners are no longer considered as suitors.

Instead, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are the two teams rumoured to be showing an interest in Toney, as the marksman continues to ponder over his next move.

The reduced asking price should make it easier for one of these clubs to snatch his signature, but as far as Tottenham are concerned, it could be dependent on raising money elsewhere.

It’s suggested any move for Toney would only happen if Spurs can find a permanent home for the much-maligned Richarlison.

The Brazil international joined the north London outfit back in July 2022, but Richarlison is said to be available for transfer.

Talk of a move to Saudi Arabia had surfaced back in May, with The Daily Mail reporting that Al-Hilal were leading the chase at the time.
