Erik ten Hag issued a take-it-or-leave-it warning to Sir Jim Ratcliffe before he changed his mind about the Manchester United managerial position. The Dutchman is now going to stay on at Old Trafford despite widespread reports he was set to be replaced.

Following a rollercoaster season that saw United finish eighth in the Premier League but clinch an unexpected FA Cup victory against Manchester City, his future was cast into doubt.

That intensified before United's triumph at Wembley. And Ten Hag then faced intense scrutiny from the media following the 2-1 win, including pointed questions from BBC's Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

Addressing the speculation head-on, Ten Hag made it clear in his post-match press conference that he was prepared to part ways with United if necessary.

"If they don't want me any more, I go somewhere else and win trophies, that's what I've done my whole career," Ten Hag declared, setting out his terms unequivocally. This bold ultimatum appears to have resonated with the club's decision-makers.

Sir Dave Brailsford, working closely with Ratcliffe, conducted an extensive review over several weeks regarding Ten Hag's role.

Factors such as Gareth Southgate's reluctance to be considered for the managerial position and the team's impressive display against City seem to have influenced the decision to retain him, reports the Mirror.

Southgate firmly set his sights on Euro 2024 with England, largely forcing Ratcliffe's hand given he was his first choice to take the reins.

Ten Hag is now receiving full backing from United, with contract extension discussions in progress. His current deal is due to end next year, but the club has the option to extend it by another year.

Despite recent successes, Ten Hag insists that the pressure remains and expectations are high for further improvement next season.

He emphasised his commitment in his last press engagement, declaring: "The team is progressing, and we are winning trophies. Two trophies in two years is not bad. Three finals is not bad, but we have to keep going. I'm not satisfied with it."
