Chelsea star Mykhaylo Mudryk has been torn apart by former Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel in an X-rated rant. Mikel has urged Mudryk to forget about haircuts and tattoos in a savage takedown of the winger.

Mudryk has struggled to live up to expectations since his £88million switch from Shakhtar Donetsk 18 months ago. He started only 18 Premier League matches last season, scoring just five goals and providing two assists.

Ex-Chelsea man Mikel has grown frustrated by the Ukrainian’s performances and has suggested that the winger’s lifestyle is hindering his performances. The 37-year-old wants Mudryk to ditch his slicked-back hairstyle.

Asked on his Obi One podcast if he was convinced by Mudryk, Mikel bluntly responded: “Nah.”

The Nigerian continued: “He needs to cut the hair, get rid of the tattoos. He needs to f****** get his head right because if he does, he is such a good player. Pace, power, quick, good on the ball - but he needs to get his act right.

“He needs to forget about the hair, the tattoos… no. Play f***** football and win us games.”

Mudryk underwhelmed in his first half-season at Stamford Bridge. However, head coach Mauricio Pochettino felt that the 23-year-old became more mature last term.

“I noticed that he is more mature,” Pochettino said of Mudryk. “I have noticed that he is a good example of a player who needs time to improve to be more mature and realise where he is.”

Speaking more broadly on Chelsea’s young players, Pochettino added: “They all need time and different lengths of time. I was talking about a month and a half ago, and too many things happened during the first days that he started to train with us.

“We have experience of managing these types of young kids. We have too many in this squad that need help. They need to perform for us.”

Mudryk will play under new boss Enzo Maresca next season, with the Italian replacing Pochettino ahead of the 2024-25 season, with big plans for the winger after turning down a request to play at the Olympics.

Maresca’s preferred style at Leicester involved utilising attacking wide men, something that may suit Mudryk. However, the Ukraine international will face strong competition for a wide berth. Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Raheem Sterling all impressed in a Chelsea shirt last season.
