Tottenham rocked as new Ange Postecoglou undroppable drops transfer hint
One of Tottenham's most-used stars has hinted that they could be tempted to leave the club.
Tottenham star Pedro Porro has revealed that he has aspirations of returning to Spain in the future. The defender has been linked with a move to Barcelona and Real Madrid previously, and the emergence of an offer from either of those sides could leave Spurs in a tricky position.
Porro joined Spurs in January 2023 on a loan-to-buy deal, with an obligation to purchase the Spain international last summer. The full-back was forced to endure a slow start to life in the Premier League but has improved markedly under Ange Postecoglou.
Under Antonio Conte and the interim managers who followed last season, Porro’s defensive weaknesses were exposed by Tottenham’s system. However, the attacking, free-flowing brand of football in north London this season has suited Porro’s attributes.
The ex-Girona star’s performances have not gone unnoticed around Europe, and Porro has now fuelled any transfer speculation by hinting that he would be open to returning to Spain in the future.
Asked by El Espanol whether he would be keen to play in his homeland again, the right-back said: “In football you never know. Today you are playing there and tomorrow you can be playing somewhere else. Being Spanish, of course, I would like to come back and enjoy La Liga. When I played here in Primera, I enjoyed it very much and I hope one day to return, of course.”
Porro has made 25 league appearances for Spurs so far this season, and his willingness to race down the wing to be a threat in the final third as well as invert into central areas means that he will be a significant miss for Tottenham if he is offloaded.
Though Spurs may not be fearful of their No. 23 pushing to leave the club at this time, as Porro revealed that he feels like he is very settled at the club following a shaky start. He continued: “It’s different from when I arrived. Now I feel more important in the team. I feel much more confident. That, at the end of the day, also makes you better.
“I’m feeling much better, more and more, as the games go by. I’m more used to playing in the Premier League and I think that’s important.” Spurs are expected to splash the cash in the summer transfer window, though it seems unlikely that the sale of Porro will fund their incomings at this stage.
