England's failure goes to grassroots of football
England’s failure at the top of the global game goes deep down to the grassroots of English football.
Nigel Hargreaves, co-manager of the national Football Football programme, says FA research shows over a million youngsters cannot find a team due to a lack of facilities and opportunities – mainly in the inner cities.
“Arsene Wenger says that at 11, English kids are already two years behind youngsters on the continent,” said Hargreaves .
“England has 1,579 coaches qualified at UEFA B level, compared to 28,400 in Germany.”
