Jose Mourinho on verge of Real Madrid deal
JOSE MOURINHO is on the verge of being named the new coach of Real Madrid after the club sacked Manuel Pellegrini.
Chilean Pellegrini was midway through a two-year contract but had failed to win a trophy.
The appointment of Mourinho, 47, will be confirmed once contract details can be sorted out. It is only four days since he led Inter Milan to an unprecedented treble by winning the Champions League at the Bernabeu where he will be in charge next season. He is under contract with Inter until June 2012, but has a get-out clause which will be exercised should Real Madrid meet the fee of 16 million euros (£13.5m).
Mourinho met Inter’s finance director Rinaldo Ghelfi in Milan yesterday and said: “Now I am on holiday, then I will go and work in Spain.”
