Dagenham took four minutes to open the scoring at Victoria Road through Paul Benson’s tap-in. Scott latched on to a goal-kick to score the second and made it 3-0 three minutes after half-time when he turned in Mark Arber’s saved penalty.
Scott completed his hat-trick with a header and both he and Benson added further goals to make a mockery of Morecambe’s fourth-placed league finish.
Dagenham manager John Still said: “It was an amazing performance but we have to be professional for the second leg on Thursday.”
That match will be Morecambe’s last at their Christie Park stadium.
Rotherham led 1-0 in the other semi-final after Adam Le Fondre claimed his 29th goal of the season at Aldershot on Saturday. The second leg is on Wednesday.
