He marked his first year back in the German big time by netting 16 goals from 36 appearances, ensuring they avoid relegation in the process.
The 2018/2019 campaign was one to forget for the forward, with injuries preventing him from kicking on.
Yet that didn't deter Bremen from snapping him up and he's been a key player for the club ever since, staying with them despite his relegation in the 2020/2021 season.

Fullkrug has netted 10 goals from 14 matches so far this season in the league, as well as providing one assist in the DFB-Pokal.
Without the 29-year-old, Germany would be facing elimination. But this draw gives them a fighting chance of making it out of a group that also consists of Japan and Costa Rica.
Fullkrug could now start when Germany face Costa Rica in their final World Cup match on Thursday.
Spain, meanwhile, are due to face Japan that same day knowing victory would see them top their group and potentially give them an easier draw in the round of 16.
