Man Utd's 2022/23 Premier League Fixtures
Manchester United are finalising the signing of Brazilian star Casemiro from Real Madrid. However, the Red Devils could do with at least one other midfielder given how short on quality they are in that department. Step forward, Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic…
Manchester United are, finally, on the verge of signing a new midfielder.
While they initially wanted Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, then Juventus star Adrien Rabiot, it’s now Real Madrid powerhouse Casemiro who is poised to move to Old Trafford.
United are set to pay £60million for the Brazil international, who has won five Champions League titles during his glittering spell in Spain.
And they’re also ready to give the 30-year-old a four-year contract with an option of a further year as they look to improve following a nightmare start to the new Premier League season.
While Casemiro is a top acquisition, however, he shouldn’t be the last midfielder the Red Devils recruit this summer.
Scott McTominay simply isn’t good enough for a club of United’s size and stature, with the Scotland international long inconsistent in the middle of the park.

The same can be said for Fred, too, despite the Brazil international appearing to be better when deployed further up the field.
Donny van de Beek still remains an enigma, two years after the Netherlands international touched down from Ajax during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stint in charge.
And James Garner is yet to prove himself at the highest level, amid talk United may actually be open to cutting the player loose this summer.
Amid the Red Devils’ pursuit of Casemiro, it’s been claimed United have also made contact regarding a potential swoop for Milinkovic-Savic.
And while he’s been linked with the Red Devils every single summer in recent years, now would be the right time to strike.
The Serbia international is a player very much on an upwards trajectory. He was outstanding for Lazio last term, scoring 11 goals and managing as many assists from 37 Serie A matches.
Milinkovic-Savic was previously somebody who can conduct but, since Maurizio Sarri’s appointment, has evolved to become something far more.
The 27-year-old would represent a true replacement for Paul Pogba. A box-to-box player in 2022, somebody capable of making a difference at both ends of the pitch.
And he’s also a leader, too, filling in as skipper whenever captain Ciro Immobile isn’t on the field.
Express Sport were recently informed Milinkovic-Savic wasn’t on United’s radar at a time where the club were eyeing Frenkie de Jong.

And Milinkovic-Savic would be a good way to go given his fine form for Lazio in recent years.
Meanwhile, amid claims the Glazers would be about to sell a minority stake in the club to American equity firm Apollo, Gary Neville has taken aim at the United owners.
"If the reports are true that the Glazer Family are ready to part sell ahead of a full sale it’s totally unacceptable that this is to a US investment fund,” he said.
"Apollo have been mentioned but they need to know they will not be welcomed in Manchester.
"The US model of sports ownership is all about significant return on investment (at all cost ie Super League and Big Picture).
“The ownership model in England needs to change and US money is a bigger danger to that than any other international money.”
