Dele Alli's previous comments about a broken down move to Newcastle United have resurfaced amid links to a January switch. Alli has also gone on the record to shower Newcastle fans with praise, which will certainly add fuel to the fire surrounding his uncertain Tottenham Hotspur future.

"But from a family point of view, I was going up there by myself, and they were a bit worried about me being up there by myself so far away, it's not local to them.
"In the end, the decision was mine, but I don't know what happened, the deal didn't go through anyway, and I don't think they wanted me in the end! That was a bit before Tottenham.
"When you're still young, it's hard to see the bigger picture, and when it happened at first, I was sort of really angry, it felt like people were stopping me from leaving! But I know that wasn't the case."
In August 2018, Alli scored the winner as Tottenham were 2-1 victors at St James' Park on the opening day of the Premier League season.

After the match, the Spurs midfielder spoke very highly of the Newcastle fans, labelling them 'unbelievable'.
"It's very important, and everybody knows the first game is a big one. It's a long season, and we have got to improve," Alli said after full-time.
"It was very tough. Newcastle is a difficult place to come. Newcastle have got unbelievable fans, it is an atmosphere that is not too nice to play in but we knew the job we had to do."
It's likely to be a busy final week of the transfer window on Tyneside, with Howe's eyes firmly set on an attacking-midfield addition.
