Dimitar Berbatov has backed former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney to manage in the Premier League amid increasing pressure on Everton boss Rafa Benitez. Off-field issues have overshadowed Rooney's tenure as Derby County manager, and he could soon be eyeing a fresh challenge.

In his latest Betfair column, Berbatov tipped Rooney to become a Premier League manager and suggested Everton could be his next step after doing 'very well' amid Derby's off-field problems.
He wrote: "With Rafa Benitez in trouble, I've read that Wayne Rooney has been linked with a move to Everton.
"There can be no doubt that one day, Rooney will be a manager in the Premier League.
"Every ex-player wants the chance to manage on this stage, like Carrick, John Terry and Steven Gerrard now at Villa.

With the Rams League One-bound and in financial turmoil, the United legend could depart if an exciting opportunity arose.
After re-joining Everton in 2017 as a player, he could repeat his return to his boyhood club on the sidelines.
However, although he won back the hearts of Toffees fans during his second spell at the club, there will likely be a widespread desire for a proven coach to enter the helm.
Rooney has also recently committed himself to Derby after being linked with taking over the interim manager role at Manchester United before they appointed Ralf Rangnick.
