An announcement was imminent on Tuesday afternoon and Spurs had initially broken the news on social media.
They had tweeted a photo of Conte holding up a Tottenham shirt, but the post was quickly deleted.
And it appeared as though there was a clear reason for Spurs deleting the social media post as they had originally announced Conte's arrival in Spanish.
The tweet read: "Bienvenido a Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte."

Despite the post being taken down, fans were quick to notice Tottenham's error.
@ConteSZN_ tweeted: "Announcement was in Spanish!"
@JeaneetteJensen wrote: "No way we announced Conte in Spanish and not Italian... I can't with this club give me strength.
Rival fans also mocked Tottenham for their social media mishap.
@CFC_Sud posted: "Spurs admin welcomed Antonio Conte in spanish. Typical spurs to bottle even an announcement."
@jxmaesN17 said: "I can't believe the Spurs admin announced Conte in Spanish thinking it was Italian. Only Tottenham Hotspur."
Conte was eventually announced minutes later with Tottenham tweeting: "Buongiorno Antonio."
The 52-year-old said: “I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again.

“Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.
“I can't wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach.
“Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching.
“But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction.”
