City stock rising as Tevez sends Mancini into fourth
CARLOS Tevez scored a hat-trick to extend his goal spree and catapult Manchester City into the top four of the Premier League above Tottenham as they demolished Blackburn Rovers 4-1 at Eastlands last night.
Tevez’s treble takes his tally to 11 in his last nine games as City’s good run continues.
He scrambled home the first after seven minutes following a mistake by Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson. And four minutes into the second half, he curled in the third after being set up by fellow striker Benjani.
In between, Micah Richards scored a wonder goal after a surging 70-yard run and a great lay-off to Benjani. His shot hit the post, but Richards pounced on to the rebound and finished in style from an acute angle.
Tevez hit his third with another curling shot in injury-time to grab the match ball.
That is four straight wins for Roberto Mancini since he replaced Mark Hughes last month. But he did lose one record last night as City conceded their first goal since Mancini arrived.
Morten Gamst Pedersen pulled a goal back for Blackburn, who will be now looking to re-group ahead of Thursday’s Carling Cup semi-final against Aston Villa.
