Arsenal have reportedly steered away from making a big-money move for James Maddison this summer. The Gunners have been one of the most active Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window so far.
However, Arsenal's activity at Colney this week could suggest that Arsenal won't be too disheartened if they fail to sign Maddison.
Emile Smith Rowe committed his long-term future to Arsenal in signing a new contract.
And The Athletic report that Smith Rowe will now be the 'priority' to play in the attacking midfield role this upcoming season.
It is claimed that Arsenal still want to bring in another midfielder to compete with Smith Rowe, but it's unlikely they will 'go to the level required to sign Maddison'.
