Manchester City are prioritising the renewals of two first-team players' contracts ahead of signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer, according to reports. City want to extend deals for Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, whose current contracts are set to expire in the summer of 2023.
McGarry says Guardiola wants to secure the futures of Sterling and Jesus first, and that the Spaniard believes signing a striker is not a great necessity.
"Manchester City are prioritising renewals for two of their other most-important players - Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus," McGarry said.
"And we have been told that Kane is not a priority for them.
"Pep Guardiola believes that having played a full season and won the Premier League title again without much assistance from their main striker and record goalscorer Sergio Aguero, that they are quite well-suited to how they play and can compete without necessarily having to spend such a huge amount of money on a central striker."

Man Utd transfer news: Man City could win their first Champions League this season (Image: EXPRESS)
Ferran Torres, Kevin de Bruyne and Sterling have all spent time playing as a false No 9 this season.
McGarry says City will look to sign a younger striker than Kane who they feel can develop into a top player in the future, allowing Guardiola to stick with the successful formula of this season.
"What I'm told is that they would prefer to purchase at a younger age," McGarry added.
"A striker who could be developed, and also someone who could be cheaper, not just in transfer fee but also in wages, while using either Jesus or a false nine as Guardiola has been using for probably half the games this season, not playing with a recognised central striker.
"So for City it does not seem to be the case that Kane would be someone they would compete with United for, though they are not ruling out being in the race for [him]."
