Ed Sheeran strikes Ipswich Town sponsorship deal to display message on front of shirt
Ed Sheeran has struck a deal to sponsor Ipswich Town's shirts for the 2021/22 campaign.
Ipswich Town have struck a deal with music superstar Ed Sheeran to sponsor their shirts for the 2021/22 season. The Tractor Boys will part ways with their 'Carers Trust' front-of-shirt sponsor at the end of the current campaign.
Sheeran, who has an estimated net worth of £200million, is delighted with his latest investment.
The 30-year-old said: "The club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support.
"I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again.
"With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including myself."
Ipswich recently rejected £30m takeover by American investors but they have secured a healthy financial boost from The A Team singer.
Sheeran has been a regular at Portman Road Stadium and even attended their EFL Trophy clash with Tottenham in September 2019.
Sheeran has chosen the message '+-=÷x TOUR' to appear on the front of the shirts in reference to his previous albums.
When pressed on what the logo means, Sheeran added: "All will be revealed in time."
Ipswich's director of sales, Rosie Richardson, said: "We are obviously thrilled that Ed has agreed to become our shirt sponsor next season.
"I have worked with Ed and his management team on various initiatives over the years and welcomed Ed and his guests to Portman Road for many games.
"He has shown his support for his hometown in lots of ways and this is another example of that.
"We look forward to seeing Ed - and every other supporter - back at Portman Road next season."
Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League in 2002 and their owners are trying to bring back the glory days.
But they will remain in League One next term as they sit ninth in the table heading into the final game of the season.
Ipswich take on Fleetwood Town on Sunday, hoping to consolidate a top-half finish.
