Real Madrid's Raphael Varane replacement emerges amid Man Utd and Chelsea transfer chase
Varane appears set to depart the reigning La Liga champions as his contract enters its final year, with United and Chelsea the frontrunners to sign him.
With Raphael Varane heading for a summer departure from Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane may not have to look too far to find a replacement for the Frenchman. Varane has emerged as one of the best defenders in the sport, but it set to be allowed to leave the Spanish capital as he enters the final year of his contract.
Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in signing the World Cup winner, with both clubs targeting defenders in the summer transfer window.
That would appear to leave a huge hole in Madrid’s defence, though they appear to have a ready-made replacement at the club.
Both Varane and centre-back partner Sergio Ramos have spent several games out through injury and coronavirus in recent weeks.
Taking their place in Zidane’s backline has been Éder Militão, who became Madrid’s most expensive defender when they signed him from Porto in the summer of 2019.
