Everton were able to hang on for a 2-2 draw though after a late Sadio Mane goal was ruled out by VAR because of the tightest of offside margins.
The Senegal international had given the Reds the lead in the opening three minutes of the match before Liverpool suffered a blow with Virgil van Dijk going off injured.
That was following a brutal challenge from Jordan Pickford which was deemed worthy of no punishment by VAR.
Michael Keane soon equalised for the Toffees who fought Liverpool every step of the way.
After the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park Calvery-Lewin gave his assessment of the game.
He said: "As you'd expect in derbies got tackles flying in 50-50, so there's always a chance the ref might bring out a yellow or red.
"Disappointed we didn't kick on at 1-1. We knew had spells where we wouldn't have the ball. I managed to put one away but I genuinely thought it would be coming [the win], but it wasn't to be.
"I'm disappointed we didn't win the game. We wanted to win the game. In that respect it was frustrating. In terms of the bigger picture it's a point and we'll take it."
