Rashford and Alexander-Arnold take part in England training
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given a kick up the backside this week after losing his spot in the England team, and could benefit from the competition on the national stage. That’s the opinion of former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood.
Alexander-Arnold was forced to watch from the sidelines at Wembley as England suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Denmark on Wednesday night.
The right-back was left on the bench for the game, with Chelsea youngster James starting at right wing-back.
Gareth Southgate has stayed true to his decision to play five at the back, with three centre-backs and two wing-backs, and Alexander-Arnold hasn’t managed to fit in his plans.
The Liverpool ace doesn’t have any competition on the club scene, having cemented his place as one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted players in recent years.

“It’s also about defending, when you saw Leeds come in the first game of the season you thought Bielsa’s having a go, they really took the game to Liverpool.
“For other teams playing against Liverpool, don’t sit back and wait to get beat. You did that last year and watched them lift the trophy.
“[Teams should] have a go at them, see what they’re made of when they’re put under pressure. That’s what we’re going to see.”
