Chelsea boss Frank Lampard axes two in Champions League squad announcement
Chelsea kick off their Champions League campaign against Sevilla on October 20th.
Chelsea: Kepa's future role at the club discussed by experts
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has named his 25-man squad for the Champions League group stages with a few players missing out. Now that the transfer window has closed in most of the major leagues around Europe, Lampard now has his squad settled for the new campaign.
The Blues were the Premier League's biggest spenders with Thiago Silva, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell all joining Lampard's new-look side.
All new signings will be expected to play a big role in Chelsea's Champions League aspirations and have been included in their squad for the group stages.
The squad is split into two 'lists' of players with List A "comprising up to 25 players with a minimum of eight locally trained players, of whom four must have come through the club’s own ranks between the ages of 15 and 21".
And List B is "made up of players aged 21 or younger with two years’ training at the club".
There are no real surprises in the players Lampard has selected for his Champions League squad, but there are a few who have missed out.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard criticised with Tottenham warning
While Chelsea trimmed down their squad in the transfer window with a host of players being sent out on loan, there are still a few who failed to secure moves away from Stamford Bridge.
Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater were both heavily linked with leaving Chelsea in the summer with neither in Lampard's plans for the current campaign and have been left out of the Champions League squad.
Drinkwater has failed to make an impact at Chelsea since his big-money move from Leicester in 2017.
The midfielder spent last season out on loan at both Burnley and Aston Villa, but he struggled for regular minutes and has been unable to find a new club this summer.
He could still move on with the EFL transfer window still open until October 16.
Moses is in a similar position, despite being strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan.
The 29-year-old has been on the books at Chelsea since 2012 but he's spent a large portion of that time out on loan.
There was also no room for Baba Rahman, who has been linked with a move to Watford before the domestic transfer deadline.
